Philippines: The Most Corrupt Country in Asia, Why Bother?

Last March 28, Philippines was declared as the most corrupt country in Asia. From a rate of 7.80 to 9.40, what a big leap and fast phase of corruption in our country! And who gave the said report? Oh, it is just The Asia foundation, a very unreliable source! the whole world is so into them when it comes to the political and social state of affairs in Asia! And where the heck did they get such information? Another Oh, The Asia Foundation got it from the Social Weather Stations, Pulse Asia, Ibon Foundation, The Makati Business Club, Transparency International (TI), and PERC; all brought together by the Annual Enterprise Survey conducted by The Asia Foundation itself and United States Agency for International Development.

With all the tidings, why should I bother? Why be troubled if I can eat more than 3x a day? Got the latest gadgets like ipod, laptop, cellphone, and a playstation portable? Livin' in a decent house with my own room for privacy? Got the best education this country can offer? Or I can rationalize my untroubled view to this nasty information about Philippine ranking in corruption by saying that Man in nature is selfish, and the whole thing about the state and government is a stuff for politicians and businessmen and not for a teenager like me, So why bother?

But I must be concern because I am a citizen of the Philippines and a benefactor of its state affairs and government policies; I represent my country wherever I go, whatever I do, and whoever I meet; and due to the color of my skin, of my small and flat nose, of my irrefutable Filipino tongue, I can not deny the fact that I am a Filipino.

I am bothered by the fact that I am affected by the negative clouts brought about of being the number 1 most corrupt country in Asia; that the value of Peso in the world market and world media is escalating but not in in the everyday lives of the masses; that my father, brother, cousin, uncle, best friend, neighbor, if possible even my dog are all going abroad for greener pasture that they can not find in this country; that the best education that Philippines can offer is not enough to have a healthy competition against the rest of the globe; that my Muslim brothers in Mindanao are asking for autonomy from the central government in view of cultural and religious differences (sad to say discrimination too by some narrow- minded Filipino Christians) and refusal to comply to their needs, rights and potential as part of the country leading to irrational bloodshed and terror; to cut the story short, we are a putrefying and left behind by the rest of the world country, and with these verities I am bothered and so you must also be!
